Fifth Estate

Groups or independent entities, especially bloggers, social media activists, and alternative media organizations, that operate outside mainstream journalism and traditional political power structures to influence public opinion.

Hundredweight

A unit of weight equal to 100 pounds in the United States (the short hundredweight) or 112 pounds in Great Britain (the long hundredweight).

Quartation

The metallurgical process of alloying an impure gold sample with silver in a proportion of three parts silver to one part gold, allowing nitric acid to dissolve the silver and separate the gold.

Quintain

A medieval tilting post consisting of a rotating board on one side and a bag of sand or heavy weight on the other, used as a target for lancers.
